I think we were done exploring Knock Shrine. It has a few interesting points and it is certainly worth a visit if you are a pilgrim. I still maintain that there is not much point staying over here since there isn’t much to do at night here. However, if you coming here for a retreat, then this might a good place to do it. On our way out of the complex we noticed that there was an interesting feature. There seemed to be a few people going there with containers. I was surprised to know that this was a fountain for holy water. Similar to other Marian apparition sites in the world, like Fatima and Lourdes, the water of Knock is believed to have miraculous properties.

There have been stories of how people have been miraculously cured due to the water here at Knock. The water itself is free and there are numerous dispensers for the water. I myself purchasing a large container to bring back some water. Fortunately, it is free. It would have been unthinkable to charge for the water. Although with local water charges looming in the horizon in Ireland, I don’t know if it is possible to keep it free. I’m not sure of the origins of the water, if it is just an underground spring then it might not be subject to water charges.
