Inside the Apparition Chapel at Knock

We were so busy the previous day that we didn’t really get a chance to explore much of the basilica area. The following day was for our exploration so we just wanted to take a look at the basilica grounds. One of the most important places here is the apparition chapel. To better understand this, one needs to know about the events here at Knock. August 1878, a group of people here claimed to have seen and apparition of Mary Mother of Jesus, Saint Joseph and Saint John the Evangelist. To the left of Saint John is an altar with a cross and lamb on it. The apparition here is said to be a silent apparition, this means that there was no communication with the witnesses. This is different from the more famous apparitions at Lourdes and Fatima.

Due to the events here at Knock, a church and a shrine was built here. One of the structures that were built here was the apparition chapel which is more modern. It has a full glass facade and you can see what is inside. The chapel has a scene of the events here at Knock to give you a idea of how it looked like. You can considered the chapel here to be one of the most important here in the complex. In fact, the chapel still contains part of the original gable wall of the old church. The faithful can come and touch the original gable wall for miraculous properties.
