Dunluce Castle’s Steep Slopes Provide Great Defense

Much of all there is to see in Dunluce Castle are ruins of the former castle. A lot of the walls have been torn down possibly for use as building material. As far as a castle is concerned, Dunluce Castle is finished. However, it is now a major tourist attraction on the northern coast of County Antrim and it just so happened to be near another important and much more well known place. For now we will just finish up exploring Dunluce Castle. There was a path from the castle to the lower ground. Dunluce Castle was built on a rock as protection against invasion.

From below you can see how tall the rock actually it. It makes the castle above even appear taller than it actually is. The sides of the castle are very steep, ensuring that any invaders would have at least a difficult time to invade this castle, possibly providing the castle occupants with enough time to fight back. This combined with the rough coastline make for a formidable natural defense. The only way to the castle is by a bridge which presumably is retractable in times of seige.
