Spectacular Cliffs of Slieve League in County Donegal

Slieve League is probably the most well known sitew in county Donegal. Of course this is a bit relative since Donegal is one of the more isolated and remote counties in the county. If you don’t believe me, just take a look at the map. This seeming isolation has resulted in underdevelopment and kept a lot of the wild scenery that Ireland is famous for. Slieve League is quite near where we were and we only drove for an hour to get there. I was pleasantly surprised to see a well paved road going all the way to the cliffs. I guess, it is precisely because of the fame of Slieve League that there is a nice road here. It would be great to get out of the car and take photos on the way in but we had no idea how far the actual place would be.

We knew we were there when there was a metal gate near what appears to be a parking area. But some vehicles were continuing on through the gate. Turns out it was a fair walk from the parking lot that we were glad we didn’t get out. The road here was spectacular as it brings close to the edge. It would be perfect for hiking. Driving on, we then came to the end of the road. There was another parking area. There were quite a few vehicles here but not anything like the mass tourism that other countries experience.
