Altare della Patria at Night

Altare della Patria in Rome at Night

The last monument we had lined up in the area of Piazza Venezia is unfortunately, the one I liked the least. The Altare della Patria is a massive structure in the historic center of Rome which tries to blend in but can’t. It sticks out like a sore thumb but that hasn’t stopped people from coming to this place. This is probably the tallest monument in the area and it does make it quite convenient to make it the landmark to aim for. We can already see it from the distance but we still wanted to take photos of it anyway since it was already there.

Even at night, the Altare della Patria still didn’t strike me as a nice building. From here it looks more like a massive tomb and it was a bit creepy. The place was already closed for the day but there were lights in certain places of the monument. The monument was probably too large to be lit properly that only parts of the monument were clearly visible. The other parts were still dark. We made it quick as we also wanted to go home. This was my last night in Rome and I still need to pack my stuff for my flight the next day. I was glad that we were able to do a proper night shot of Rome.
