Colosseum at Night

Before I went for this quick tour of Europe, I told by a good friend of mine to remember to go to the Colosseum at night. We were already done with dinner but I needed to take one final night shot before I leave Rome. Fortunately, everyone seems to be up to it so we headed straight to the Colosseum. There is a metro stop at the Colosseum so it was convenient for us to go there. By this time of the night, most of the crowds were already gone, but I think there were missing half of the experience of the Colosseum.

As you might expect, the Colosseum is magnificent at night. It was already amazing that morning with the walls against the blue sky, but the lighting of the Colosseum at night is also something. It really really tastefully done without any gaudy colors to ruin it. The “windows” of the Colosseum each had their own lights which make for a very pretty picture. I was very glad that we took the time to visit the Colosseum after dark and it made me appreciate Rome even more. We will be heading off to other sights where hopefully there would be more light shows.
