Going to Trajan’s Forum

Trajan's Forum in Rome

Trajan’s Forum in Rome

The area we were in is probably at the very center of ancient Rome. There were a lot of excavations in this area and it seems that the ancient Roman emperors were very fond of this area. The proof lies in the numerous structures that were unearthed in this area which seem to be constructed during the times of different emperors. As if each one of theme needs to leave their mark somewhere. The closest one to where we were just happened to be Trajan’s Forum. I don’t know much about ancient Roman history and I never heard of Emperor Trajan.

Apparently, Emperor Trajan is considered on of the Five Good Emperors of ancient Rome. Interestingly, these five good emperors were not relatives of their predecessor. It seemed to be quite an effective technique since it produced what is probably ancient Rome’s most stable period. The emperors of Rome had this habit of building imperial fora as a way to improve the city of Rome. Already, we had a taste of one of Emperor Trajan’s legacies. Trajan’s Column is the column which is standing in front of the two churches nearby. It is very old as it was built in the year 113 AD. It is in remarkable condition considering its age. Interestingly, that is not a statue of Emperor Trajan, the original statue was stolen and it was eventually replaced with a statue of Saint Peter.
