Outside the Santa Barbara dei Librai in Rome

As we were walking around the Campo di Fiori trying to find a place to eat. I noticed this street which seemed to be a dead end. However, what made it interesting is that the dead end had a church like structure. It was a rather curious structure since it was quite small. In fact I couldn’t really believe it was a church until I went inside. As the outward appearance implies, it is really a very tiny church. When you go in almost immediately you would see the altar, the pews are on both sides of the altar since that seems to be the only place where you can put it. It feels like a neighborhood church but it was extraordinarily beautiful inside.

It seems to have undergone some baroque renovations although the history of the church didn’t seem to be very clear. The altar area and the roof of the church were richly decorated as you might expect of bigger churches. It only just goes to show you how many gems you can see here exploring the nooks and crannies of Rome. Despite its size the church is quite old, it might have been built in the 11th century but records have been hazy at this point and not everything seems to have been recorded properly. It would be nice to visit this place if you happen to pass by.
