I wasn’t sure where we were going next after the Roman Pantheon. We came along what appeared to be a large park. However, upon closer inspection, we saw that it wasn’t just a park, it was an archeological park. There were a lot of ancient Roman ruins in this park. I would suppose that these structures were accidentally discovered when engineers were digging for construction purposes. I think it is no longer strange or surprising to be finding anything ancient when digging in Rome. You can probably say that modern day Rome was built on top of ancient Rome, this can be taken very literally since digging a few few feet below the ground will yield ancient ruins.

This place is called the Largo di Torre Argentina. It hosts the remains of Roman temples and a theater. Interestingly, Julius Caesar was supposed to have been assassinated in this square. While looking at the square you can probably see traces of what was there before but for the most part, you can see remains of walls and a number of columns. It would take a lot of imagination to visualize what was there before, maybe it would be useful if there was an artist impression of the structure before. Still, it is good that the ruins were preserved and instead turned into a park. I guess it might be difficult to be a real estate developer here when the lot you have been eye turns out to be an archeological site.
