Corinthian Columns of the Roman Pantheon in Rome

The Roman Pantheon in Rome, of course, is one of the more well known landmarks in the city. There are a lot of these places here in Rome and you would probably have difficulty visiting all of these places if you have a limited number of days here. While we don’t really plan on seeing all of Rome, we try to visit a lot of the important places. It seems that the Roman Pantheon is one of those places. I was actually surprised to know how old the Roman Pantheon is. Of course I know that this is from the Roman Empire but the state of preservation of the place is very extraordinary. Probably the first thing you would notice here are the corinthian columns which face outside.

The columns have been quite typical of first Greek and then Roman classical architecture and influences of these designs can still be seen hundreds of years later in modern buildings across the world. Typically, these columns as associated with government buildings and maybe educational institutions. However, the purpose of the Roman Pantheon seems totally different. It seems to be a place of worship, a temple if you will. However, it wasn’t clear whether this was a public place of worship even if the size of the place will imply so. I was very excited to see this structure since it is one of the best preserved structures of all ancient Roman buildings.
