Going to Castel Sant’Angelo

Ancient Aqueduct at Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome

Apart from a few very famous landmarks in Rome, it seems that I hardly know anything else about this place. We have already visited a few of the very famous places here in Rome including Saint Peter’s Basilica which is in the Vatican City, the Vatican Museums and the Trevi Fountain. I know that the Colosseum is also here but I haven’t seen our itinerary for the day. It seems we will be spending much of the day exploring the city of Rome and all its beautiful monuments. We will first be visiting a place called Castel Sant’Angelo. I have never heard of this place but it seems it is quite important.

Castel Sant’Angelo is quite near Saint Peter’s Basilica so it was easy enough to find. You just keep walking the direction where Saint Peter’s Basilica is facing, and you will find this place. What you would probably notice almost immediately is the presence of what appears to be an aqueduct. It is not difficult to miss since there were walls which lead to the Castel Sant’Angelo. Over the years the city or Rome has built around the aqueduct and you even have a road which passes right underneath the aqueduct. I don’t think the aqueduct still functions but it is good the they kept the original structure there.
