At this point, were already starting out exploration of the Vatican Museum. We were followed this path down to a hall. However, it wasn’t just a mere hall. It is probably one of the most stunning halls I have seen. This is the Gallery of Maps. What makes the gallery so stunning is that the ceiling is richly decorated much like the palace of Versailles was. There is a light on the sides of the ceiling which illuminate the ceiling even more. The colors are interestingly more earth tone which it blends very well with each other.

The gallery itself is a showcase of maps of Italy painted by Ignazio Danti, the massive map covers almost the entire wall and it is very detailed. There are around 40 maps here which took Danti only three years to complete. I was surprised to know how fast he managed to do this. The hall brings to mind the famous Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. Again, these look like they have been made for a king. With the pope at the time considered as a monarch or even a god, it is not really surprising that such things have been made for the pope’s residence.
