Exploring the Island of Burano

Walking Along the Canals of Burano Island

Walking Along the Canals of Burano Island

Burano is another island in the small Venetian archipelago. It is a bit north of Venice and it is further way from Venice than Murano. Once you get off the vaporetto, then you would know what this place is famous for. The houses here in Burano are uniquely colorful. I have seen some houses in Murano with colorful walls but Burano seems to have coordinated the entire town to join in. It would seem that the color has been freshly applied. I wonder how often they need to repaint the entire house. As you might expect, a lot of these houses have been turned into restaurants or souvenir shops. Not really surprising, since most people who come here are tourists.

Burano is also a water town, and it has numerous canals which go through the entire island. There is a main canal which goes through the entire island. It is barely wide enough for navigation. It is probably there to help people get their boat out into the lagoon. For the most part the canal seem to be very quiet and even not moving. A walk along the canals is a pleasant activity and you can spend the entire afternoon with just admiring the colorful houses here in Burano.
