Lighthouse of Murano

It looks like we are pretty much done with our exploration of the island of Murano. I wasn’t really expecting to see a lot of things, however, I still liked the island. It was very charming and in contrast to Venice, it was very quiet. I liked how hordes of tourists didn’t bother to come here, it is a pity that they missed such a great island but great as it keeps the peace in Murano. I don’t want this place to change. I think this is how Venice was supposed to be. We were supposed to move on to the next island. And we came into another vaporetto station. I don’t think we were planning on going to this station but we just ran into it. The island of Murano was small enough that you can do this. You probably just have to follow the shape of the island and you are bound to find a vaporetto station somewhere.

The station, Faro, has a interesting feature apart from the vaporetto station itself. It is difficult to miss since it was quite tall. It was a light house. With the advent of GPS and modern navigation, there wasn’t any real need to make use of lighthouses. Perhaps it is still useful to the local folk, instead of using modern equipment, they might prefer the time tested way of navigation, apart from the stars that is. The lighthouse is white as most lighthouses tend to be, probably because it is most visible if it is white. There was a door at the bottom of the lighthouse but it didn’t seem to be open. It would have been nice to be able to go up and see the island of Murano and the coast. Maybe they should try that out.
