Walking Up the Ponte della Costituzione in Venice

The architecture of the buildings and structures of Venice were mostly in harmony with each other. I like this as it shows that great effort has been made to preserve what has been there for several hundred years. The people of Venice have indeed been living much of their lives by the water and the actually embraced it. The Grand Canal for example only had three bridges spanning it. It was as if there was no need for bridges in the first place. Why is this? Because people have boats and people would just travel by the Grand Canal to get to where they want to. For the longest time, the three bridges stood proud, that was until a rather brash new member of the family came.

The Ponte della Costituzione or Constitution Bridge is the new bridge that was built to cross the Grand Canal. It would probably have been fine had the bridge look pretty much like the others. However, this was a bold glass and metal bridge that sort of stood out like a sore thumb. Additionally, this bridge was built very near the Ponte degli Scalzi which was just a few blocks down the Grand Canal. Obviously, questions were raised as to the usefulness of the bridge. There was another older bridge which just nearby, was it right to spend several million euro to build this brige? The bridge itself is a bit steep, so it had steps for people climb up with. Perhaps they were trying to be something like how the Louvre Pyramid is to the Louvre Musuem.
