Hanging Out at Piazza San Marco

Public squares are meant for people to hang out in. This is not the first public square I have been to and for the most part people behave exactly the same way whichever square they are at. The Piazza San Marco isn’t the largest square but it is quite pleasant despite the hordes of tourists who happen to be at the Saint Mark’s Basilica. Unfortunately, most of the seats in the square are also there, which probably adds to the confusion. If you move a little further it really does become very nice.

When I was just seeing photos of the Piazza San Marco, one common theme I keep seeing are the pigeon which seem to be here. I don’t doubt that the presence of tourists here in the square only adds to the presence of the birds but it is also a nice experience to be able to feed the seemingly fearless bird who can probably eat off your hand. There is no doubt countless photos have also been taken of people posing with a flock of birds flying off. Just when you thought you have prepared the perfect scene when a kid would just come and scare the birds away. In spite of the huge number of birds here, the square doesn’t seem to stink. I think it has something to do with the regular cleaning of the square which happens every now and then. For now, just sit back and enjoy your coffee in this magnificent square.
