Although I won’t be able to see the interior of the famous Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, I will only be going home half disappointed. I was still able to see the famous cathedral with my own eyes. The long queue outside the cathedral discouraged us from even considering queuing up for the visit. With all the churches, cathedrals and basilicas that I have visited in this trip, I probably already have an idea of what the interior looks like. The Notre-Dame de Paris is considered a gothic church and for the most part, gothic churches tend to look alike. Very tall columns, impressive art and of course stained glass windows. All of these are present in the Notre-Dame, so with a little imagination, I have a very good idea what it looks like.

It was at this point that we decided to turn back. We have a schedule to keep so we needed to head back to the apartment. However, not before having a look around the block, the very big block. The Notre-Dame is a very large cathedral and it takes up the entire block. This would be a good time for us to see the rest of the cathedral other than the front. From the sides and the back, you can see the flying buttresses, which are basically additional support added to the building structure. Apparently, with the height of the cathedral walls, it became necessary to add the buttresses externally and almost just as high as the walls hence the name.
