Going to Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris

It was disappointing not to be able to visit the Saint-Chapelle chapel which is said to be one of the most beautiful chapels in the world. There was a long queue outside the church and we would have to spend several hours waiting to get in the chapel. Several hours is something we do not have as we have a schedule to keep. We decided to continue walking along the river Seine before we need to head back. There was one more major landmark along this stretch which was ran into and this was the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. The famous cathedral is on the Île de la Cité. It is actually quite confusing to me since I thought that the Notre-Dame Cathedral was on solid land when we first passed by it during the river cruise. Now I find out that it was on the river island on the River Seine.

The huge cathedral is also one of the most famous in the world. When I was compiling the list of world heritage sites in France as a target to visit, I thought that the Notre-Dame Cathedral was the Chartres Cathedral. Notre-Dame actually translates to “Our Lady”, so it is actually, Notre-Dame de Paris or Our Lady of Paris. The other Nortre-Dame in Chartres is the Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral and it is outside of Paris. I would seem that I would not be able to visit either one anyway. Chartres was dropped from our itinerary due to lack of time, while the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral was overrun by tourists.
