Moulin Rouge

After dinner, we decided to go out for a short walk. I was hoping to be able to visit the Sacre Coeur in Paris. It seemed to be quite near to where we were but it might take a bit of walking. The Sacre Coeur Basilica is a well known landmark in Paris and it is supposed to be enchanting at night. I was hoping to be able to finally take night photos of the city of light. We were walking along the main road where our apartment was located but going the other way. I noticed that it seemed to be very busy here in this area and for some reason, there were a lot of neon lights. I think I was very slow to realize what kind of place this was under someone pointed it out to me. It was a red light district. It was actually not that bad. Sure, it was seedy but it still seemed to be more or less safe. I tend to be very wary of these kinds of place and if possible I wouldn’t even want to go here. I was surprised that my companions were very eager to see this place. I, on the other hand, was very worried about their safety. Maybe they can run very fast.

It seems that we had a goal here and it was the Moulin Rouge cabaret. I didn’t know much about Moulin Rouge and I didn’t know that we were that close to this place. Moulin Rouge is a cabaret. This used to be a place where people would come and watch ladies dance can-can, actually Moulin Rouge is where this dance form was popularized. It eventually evolved into a form of entertainment and the cabaret spread all over Europe. The fame of Moulin Rouge is quite well known and they even made a movie out of it, and, no, I didn’t watch it. There was a massive queue outside the cabaret and even in the rain people were just waiting to get in. It seems it really is that popular. I am probably just a bit curious about the Moulin Rouge but I probably won’t queue for hours just to get in. Maybe I should just watch the movie.
