The Romaneseque House is one of the oldest houses here in the medieval town of Provins. It has since been turned into a museum showcasing all things Provins. The first floor basically shows items which came from the height of the power of Provins. There were religious items which came from the basilica and there were also stuff such as local clay tiles which were highly prized for their quality. The museum also showcases stuff which is from the surrounding area. However, what is probably the most interesting stuff is in the basement.

The basement houses the stoneware collection of the museum. It seems that Provins and the surrounding area where already inhabited way before the rise of the medieval town as a center of trade. There was sarcophagi which were excavated and it much be really old. I was surprised that there was thing kind of stuff here. I didn’t get to know much about these excavations though. There were three sarcophagi here and the entire place seems to be an excavation. But I think it was too nice to be one, perhaps this place was remodeled to better house the priceless artifacts. There were also statues on display here as a testament to the high degree of culture the people here had. It is good that there is this museum to showcase the importance of Provins to the world.
