Grand Trianon

At the end of the long walk through the gardens of the Palace of Versailles was another gate. There was another important looking house. This is the Grand Trianon. This was designed to be something like a rest house for the king. It is strange that a king, who already lives in what probably is the largest palace in the world, would need a rest house to “get away from it all”. It seems that the regal formalities of the life of a king can be very stifling. The Grand Trianon is where the king would entertain guests in a slightly less intimidating environment.

There is another gate here are the Grand Trianon, and I wasn’t expecting that. I was already under the impression that we already entered the main gate of the palace grounds so there was no need for another one. I think there is another gate here since we passed by a parking lot. It would be a pain if visitors with vehicles were asked to walk all the way to the main gate of the palace and head back here afterwards. I think there is another gate to allow entry into the garden. This gate however is to allow entry into the Grand Trianon. In spite of its name, the Grand Trianon is far less grand when compared to the main chateau. I guess the king got tired to walking from one end of the palace to another and made him wonder why did he build such a massive palace in the first place.
