Going to Park Güell

Making Our Way Up to Park Güell in Barcelona

It seems that the whole day would be dedicated to one of Barcelona’s most famous residents – Antoni Gaudí. We were done with exploring the Sagrada Familia Basilica, which was as fantastic as I expected it to be. The exterior of the church was still unfinished. Comparing it with the plans, it seems like there is still a lot of work to be done. In particular, the central tower and spire is yet to be erected. It is interesting how they would build it since the basilica structure is basically complete. How will they build the central spire like that, this is something we will have to see. Hopefully, everything goes according to plan and it completes in the next decade. For now, we will be focusing our energies on another Gaudí work – Park Güell.

I would admit that I don’t really know much about this Park Güell as I was only familiar with the more popular works of Gaudí. As the name suggests, this is a park with Gaudí stuff in it. Interestingly, this was on a small hill in the fringe of town and we had to walk a bit to get there. Unfortunately, there was no metro station here and we had to climb the hill along the way there. There were signs to help visitors along the way and we weren’t in a trouble of getting lost. There was a trickle of visitors also making their way to the park so I think we were in the right path. Certain portions of the path were quite steep, fortunately, they built escalators for the lazy. It reminds me of the path going up Hong Kong’s Midlevels which also featured an outdoor escalator. This one in Barcelona seems to be much smaller though, but it is still convenient.
