Beautiful Ceiling Design of the Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona

When you enter the Sagrada Familia, you would be impressed at how the interiors were beautifully and creatively designed. The essentially Gothic church is one of the most famous works of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The church has been in construction since 1882 and is considered as one of the longest ongoing constructions projects in the world. Because of the uniqueness of the design, the plan of the construction was intended to outlive the architect himself. The difficultly of making the parts needed for the church resulted in a planned schedule lasting several centuries. However, with the advent of modern technology, it has been possible to make the parts of the church in parallel offsite. This allows for a faster delivery time for the church.

The interiors of the church is the first to be completed and it was completed not too long ago either. The magnificent columns supporting the ceiling of the church are just but introductions to the ceiling itself. Your eyes will undoubtedly be drawn toward the ceiling. When old churches had frescoes in their ceilings, the Sagrada Familia has numerous geometric shapes combined to produce a unique design that only Antoni Gaudí could come up with. There were numerous portholes in the ceiling to allow light through. The windows had stained glass designed with religious symbols. It is really a magnificent sight. It was almost looking through the trees at a star filled sky. While the exterior of the building was interesting for me, the interior so far had me grinning with approval. Perhaps it is because it is already complete. I would have to see when I would be able to visited again once the project is complete.
