One of the most prominent places here in Tarragona is the Cathedral of Tarragona. Like any self respecting Spanish city, the Cathedral is one of the most important structures here. The Cathedral of Tarragona seems to be sitting on top what much be considered a holy place. Before the Cathedral, during the Roman times, there was a Roman temple here, after that there was a Visigothic cathedral, the the Moors came and, guess what, they built a mosque here. The Cathedral here is the latest of the structures to be built here and it is probably the one which lasted the longest. The origins of the cathedral aren’t very clear either but historian put the current structure to 1154. That is certainly a very long time ago, and it is already considering that there were structures built before this one.

At the time of our visit, the Cathedral didn’t seem to be open, which was odd since it was Easter Sunday. We didn’t go around looking for an entrance either since the front door wasn’t open. The relatively small number of vendors here hints to the fact that the cathedral might indeed by closed that time. We only took photos outside the Cathedral. The gate itself is massive and intimidating. It is surrounded by arches which typify Cathedrals which I have seen. The columns by the gate have statues of saints and they seem to be quite detailed enough to be recognizable. Not bad for something which is exposed to the elements. There is also a beautiful rose window on the facade of the cathedral. I wished that I could have gone in as the windows surely would have been beautiful inside.
