Exploring the Circo Romano in Tarraco

I didn’t know what a Roman Circus was until I visited the Circo Romano at Tarraco, which is modern day Tarragona in Spain. It was a very large structure back in the Romain times of Spain and it can be considered the equivalent of modern day stadiums, sometimes even matching up to modern day Olympic stadiums. It is mostly used for performances such as horse or chariot races which were the favorite past time of the people back then. They even have sport heroes and memorabilia sold related to these superstars. The Circo Romano here in Tarragona is but a shadow of its former self with much of the structure been re-purposed for building structures around the stadium. Construction was built around the circus which made it end up at the center of the city of Tarragona.

Fortunately, a lot of the Roman Circus was left that you can still recognize some parts. Fast forward to the modern city of Tarragona, when you go in the ruins, you would feel underwhelmed at the size of the Roman Circus, however, it would blow your mind to realize that this was just part of the original Roman circus. Some parts of the Roman circus can be found outside the main site. Just keep in mind that 25,000 people can fit in here. It sure it is already larger than a lot of sport stadiums around the world.
