Going to Circo Romano

Going in the Circo Romano

Just across the hotel at Tarragona, we noticed this rather significant looking structure. It almost looks like an ancient castle, but I can’t be sure. For sure it is another ruin which we can explore. It seems that there are really a lot of them here, the challenge it to see what state of preservation they are in. Tarragona was inhabited even after the fall of the Roman empire. The people still continued with their lives but this sometimes came at the expense of these structures. In this case, the ruins of the Roman structures soon became a source of raw material for building.

Not a few structures suffered this fate. Usually the larger structure survived owing to their sheer size. One example was the Roman Amphitheater which was large enough to survive cannibalization. Another structure here is the Circo Romano, or the Roman Circus. The name itself gives me images of a different kind of circus which this one probably isn’t. The structure is huge and it is probably one of the most significant structures here in Tarragona. There seems to be an entrance here but we already paid for the all-in-one ticket. Time for some exploration!
