Casa de la Ciutat at Barcelona

We were wandering around the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. We didn’t really have a particular destination in mind as we were just walking around to see what we can see here. Barcelona is a pretty city and the buildings are part of the scenery. Being the Gothic Quarter, there are a lot of Gothic buildings in this area. The area is quite compact that the buildings are quite close to each other. Not surprising since Barcelona has been around for quite a long time. Once in a while though you would run into small open spaces, spaces like the Plaça Sant Jaume or Plaza San Jaime or Saint James’ Square

This plaza is one of the more important plazas in Barcelona since this is where some important buildings are. One of the buildings surrounding the plaza is the Casa de la Ciutat, I was able to deduce that this meant Casa de la Ciudad, House of Barcelona City or City Hall. It is a Gothic styled building and has been in existence since the 1300s. It would be the first of many Gothic style buildings we were run into. You can see the importance of this building with the flags of Spain, Catalonia and Barcelona flying on top of the building. I didn’t get to enter the building as we only stayed outside to take photos.
