Magnificent Rooms in the Alcazar de Segovia

After the rather lackluster dining area the Alcazar de Segovia. It has been nothing but a series of beautiful rooms after another. The room themselves were nothing really special but the ceilings were all very magnificent. I probably haven’t seen a place with such attention given to the ceiling. Most of the ceilings were all done by Arab artisans which were influential in shaping what came to be Spain’s defining architectural flavor. Granted that these were really castles and they are supposed to be beautiful, but if you look at them you can immediately tell that these were no ordinary rooms.

One of the rooms was a personal chapel for the residents of the castle. There was a beautiful altar here complete with paintings. The room was quite dark and it is only lit by a few stained glass windows above. Perhaps this was done on purpose so as to give more focus on the altar. The altar was reminiscent of the altar at the Cathedral of Toledo where it featured panels depicting religious figures.
