Retiro Park is one of Madrid’s most prominent landmarks and it is also it most popular park. I had some time before my train will be leaving so I decided to drop by this massive park which happens to be near the train station. There was a map of the park and it is riddled with paths which make it ideal for walking. There are large avenues within the park but for people to walk on. These paths would open up to a nice plaza with a monument or a fountain at the center. It is really quite pleasant here and I can’t blame them Madrileno for coming here all the time. I was there on a weekday and on Holy Week, so people traffic might not be as bad as it normally is.

This is probably my first time to go to a western style park and it is quite different from the ones which I have seen in Asia, particularly, China. Young people seem to like to come to the park, compared to Asia where mostly old folk come to parks to stretch. It is a nice place to go people watching here though I don’t really have the time to spare to do that. One of the largest landmarks within the park is the Estanque del Retiro or Retiro Pond. It is much larger than what the name suggests, as it is large enough to go boat riding on it. As you might expect, it is a great place to hang around. There were also people who were fishing here but I don’t know if they can really catch anything substantial here.
