Going to Retiro Park

Entering Retiro Park

I managed to puchase my tickets for the next day at the Madrid Atocha Railway Station. It took me some Spanish and a very patient counter accomplish that but at least it was done. I still had two hours more before the train leaves. I wasn’t counting on that so I needed to plan for a contingency. Fortunately, there was complimentary wifi at the train station so I was able to find out what is nearby. As it turns out there was a massive park just a short walk from the train station. A friend of mine also recommended that I drop by the park since it is also nice. Since I didn’t really have any better I ideas, I went on ahead to the park.

From the map, you can see that Retiro Park isn’t just one park, it actually composed of several parks, somehow one just merges into another. There was an easy path from the Madrid Atocha Railway Station to the park. It was basically near the Atocha metro station where I came out from earlier. There was a nice street there which lines the park and has multiple entrances to the park. I went in the entrances which said Real Observatorio de Madrid, probably meant Madrid Observatory, this intrigued me and I was hoping I would be able to see one of their astronomical observatories here but I walked the length of that part and I didn’t see any observatory. From the map, I can see that this is a massive park and I don’t think I would be able to explore all of the park, I would try to wander around a bit to see what is nice here.
