Stone of Destiny

Stone of Destiny at the Hill of Tara

Stone of Destiny at the Hill of Tara

The Hill of Tara feels more like a golf course rather than the sacred place where the High Kings of Ireland ruled. There weren’t too many features on the top as it was mostly a hilly open area, just like a golf course. It didn’t have any water though but the ground was soaked in it. Parts of the hill were quite muddy that it was starting to get slippery. This is made worse by having a large number of human traffic pass through some areas. One of the most frequented areas in the hill is the Stone of Destiny. The stone is a standing stone and it seems to be one of the more important places here.

The story of the Stone of Destiny is that this is where the High Kings of Ireland were crowned. If the would be king was able to complete some tasks the stone would scream upon the touch of the High King. The scream would be heard all over Ireland. It does sound like a story that comes from fairy tales and it sort of bring us back to the time when kings would roam Ireland. Now, the Stone of Destiny is just a standing stone in the middle of the Hill of Tara. The area around it is quite muddy, so it pays to watch your step.
