Ruins at Dublin Castle

Ruins Underneath Dublin Castle

I was pleasantly surprised at the presence of some ruins at Dublin Castle. Actually, these was dug up by construction workers who were preparing the area for reconstruction, but the decision was made to keep this area as it was before. So everything was built on top of the ruins. The ruins, however, are still accessible to visitors as there is a metal walkway which bring visitors around the ruins area. Much of the ruins related to the older castle tower which used to be standing there before everything was renovated. As of now, only the Records Tower is the only one left standing.

If you look at the hole where the old tower was you would realize that the space inside was smaller than you would expect. It is really the case, as the walls of these towers were very thick as it serves a defensive purpose. There were also the remains of the castle walls including some stairs which lead to the castle interiors. These places are off limits to visitors but you can have a good look at them anyway. I was glad that they decided to keep the ruins intact, it is a good way to show future generations how it was back then.
