I was underwhelmed by Saint Stephen’s Green. Maybe I was expecting too much for a “mere” park, but I quickly got bored of the place and I was soon making my way out of the park. Just as I was going through one of the gates, when something caught my eye. It was a house, or more accurately, a cottage. It was a very attractive one, as well. This cottage is the Gardener’s Cottage. It is a striking brick Tudor style cottage. I was quite surprised to see something like that here. If you pay attention to the details of the house it is really quite a gem. I wanted to take a closer look but it seems it was off limits, and marked as private property.

Well that was strange, why would there be a private property inside a very public park? It seems that the cottage is actually occupied by the gardener who tends the Saint Stephen’s Green. The cottage was marked as private property probably to keep away nosy tourists from peering through their windows. You wouldn’t want that if you were staying there, right? The hedges in the cottage grounds were trimmed but there didn’t seem to be any sign of anyone there. The modern looking windows here were probably later additions to the cottage to keep the house warm.
