Outside Berkeley Library in Trinity College in Dublin

I was very disappointed when I did not get to see the Book of Kells, since the library was closed for the school holiday. I had no idea that it was closed as I was thinking that since it is a library, it is probaby always open. Oh well, this is another reason for me to come back here. The library of Trinity College was supposedly also worth a look. It is the largest research library in Ireland and it is also some sort of an official book keeper of Great Britain and Ireland. This means that whatever book that gets printed in either country, this library gets a copy of it. As a result, it receives 100,000 books yearly. I don’t know how they managed to keep such a large quantity of books within the premises. Keep in mind that this is a library, someone is bound to want to borrow something. Or maybe not all of the 100,000 per year books are available for borrowing.

Right beside the Library of Trinity College is a smaller Berkeley Library. It too seemed closed as my disappointment only increased with this knowledge. It is supposedly an arts library but the building itself isn’t really very inspiring. There is a rather interesting sculpture outside the library called the Sphere within a Sphere by Arnaldo Pomodoro. At first glance you would think that it is just an ordinary sphere, but it rotates to reveal the rest of the sculpture which may be forgiven if you were reminded of the Death Star from Star Wars. It was an interesting sculpture and it seems like the other visitors agree with me.
