The rain didn’t show any sign of stopping so I had to continue hoping it would still be possible to just walk around in my jacket. Not too far from the Adam and Eve’s Church was probably one of the more important church here in Dublin. It was the Christ Church Cathedral. Now, it is interesting to note that the Christ Church Cathedral is one of two cathedrals in Dublin, the other being Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, however it is more interesting to note that both cathedrals belong to the minority Church of Ireland. It was because of the religious oppression on Catholics back then that they didn’t have a full Cathedral. The Christ Church Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, used to be a Catholic cathedral but it was handed over to the Church of Ireland. After the Catholic emancipation, the cathedral remained with the Church of Ireland.

The Catholics meanwhile set up a pro-Cathedral at Saint Mary’s somewhere near O’Connell Street. It is a pro-Cathedral since it is not a full fledged one but it somehow acts like one. It is unlikely that the Christ Church Cathedral will be handed back to the Catholic church so sooner or later, the pro-Cathedral at Saint Mary’s needs to be elevated to a full Cathedral status. While it is possible to go in the Christ Church Cathedral, I was surprised to know that there is an entrance fee for the cathedral. It seems that the cathedral has a lot of stories to tell, unfortunately, wasn’t willing to pay for the entrance fee. I was told that the entrance fee helps to cover the operations of the church since they spend 4,000 euros every day, probably a lot on heating. Additionally, the church doesn’t receive and grants from the government considering its historical importance, not that the government could afford something like that anyway. I contented myself to get soaked outside while I take some photos of the impressive church.
