Beautiful Interiors of John’s Lane Church

One could not but marvel at the quality of art here at the Church of Saint Augustine and Saint John the Baptist. It seems that everywhere you look in the church there is a work of art displayed. From the pillars to the shrines on the side and the altar itself. The church seems to have put a premium on these works of art such that it took 33 years to complete the church. This site formerly housed a hospital but it was burned to the ground and a church was built in its place. The architect for this church was Edward Welby Pugin, it seems that he also has other works in other Irish cities and towns, maybe those might be worth a look as well.

The main altar was a sight to behold, which is natural since this is the focus of the church. There are also side altar for the Sacred Heart and another to the right for Our Lady of Good Counsel. The sides of the church are also adorned with shrines, one was for Saint Rita of Cascia. The walls are also adorned with beautiful mosaics and you really need to pay attention to the level detail here. Most of them all within viewing distance and surprisingly, quite easy to access considering the quality of the art here. I’m glad that the Church of Saint Augustine and Saint John the Baptist is very generous in sharing this very precious work of art and I’m also glad to have stumbled into it.
