O’Connell Bridge Over the River Liffey

Prior to coming to Dublin, I already had a look at map of Dublin and how I plan to explore this place. I managed to get to O’Connell Street first all according to the plan. The rest of the plan was to walk from O’Connell Street and all the way to the sights in Dublin. Fortunately for me, most of the interesting sights in Dublin were all within walking distance to each other. I was actually surprised to know that the places were closer to each other than the maps might suggest. That is good, I think I can finish this before it gets dark. At the south end of O’Connell Street was one of the busiest places in the city. Right there at the statue of Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator, was the famed River Liffey.

Most important cities in the world were founded near a body of water, be it the sea or a river or both. In the case of Dublin, it was the River Liffey. As you might expect, there is a lot of development along the banks of the river, but of particular note here were some of the bridges which cross the River Liffey. Since I was already at O’Connell Street, it is but fitting that they named the bridge here at O’Connell Bridge. It is a wide and charming bridge. The design makes it look like I’m really in Europe. It was those designs which make you imagine horse drawn carriages still making their way across the river. It is still in use today, more than ever.
