Imagine Having Dinner at this Table in Donegal Castle

Donegal Castle was established by the O’Donnell clan in 1471 and from there they ruled their land. All was well until the English came to take over Ireland. It was a bitter struggle against English rule and this animosity persists to this day, most especially in northern regions of Ireland. Donegal Castle naturally became a target of the English, as it was once described to be the largest and strongest fortress in Ireland. Thus did the Nine Year War between the English and the Gaelic Chieftains begin. So what happened after the Nine Year War? The Flight of the Earls happened.

When England finally defeated the Gaelic chieftains, the realized that it would be better to just work with the local chiefs instead of merely lording it over them. The chiefs with their diminished power, subsequently fled Ireland for mainland Europe in the hope of someday mustering forces to retake Ireland. However, this was not to be. Donegal Castle on the other hand, fell in the hands of the British, not before it was destroyed to make it useless to the conquerors. This was quickly rebuilt and improved with windows. True enough, it is really much brighter in the first floor. This place appears to be dining area with a long table by the fire place. It was nice to imagine how it was used back then.
