Lough Greenan

Lough Greenan from Above

It was another weekend and we were on our way to another adventure. We will be heading to northern Donegal once again. This place seems to have a lot of interesting places and we will try to explore as much as we can. It would be a two hour trip across some beautiful scenery. We were on some country road on our way to our destination and we came across some stunning vistas. Probably an hour into the trip we came across this place. There was a small lake, or lough as it is called, with a viewing area or rather a parking area. There were no markers there but maps say that this is Lough Greenan.

A Closer Look at Lough Greenan

Lough Greenan, means Lake Greenan. Ever since I came here, I was having issues pronouncing place names. I would notice that Irish names would take letter into their name and never use them when the name is pronounced. “Lough” is the same as the British “loch”. From the parking area, we can see the entirety of Lough Greenan quite well. It was also incredibly windy in the area, which reminds me of the rougher areas of Donegal. Lough Greenan is nestled in an elevated area which may explain the strength of the winds. From the parking area, Lough Greenan seems quite placid, however, you can also see the effect of the wind on the surface of the lough. We didn’t get to go down to the water since it was quite far away. However, I was quite happy to see this beautiful lake even from above. I knew getting a wide angle lens was worth it.
