Other Side of the River Foyle

Crossing the River Foyle on the Peace Bridge

I didn’t really plan much on visiting a lot of places here in Derry-Londonderry, probably because I thought I would be waiting for my broken mobile phone rather than walking about here. Alas, I would probably spend the rest of the day here. I remembered that there was one place which I didn’t get to visit when I first visited. For that I needed to walk a bit. Fortunately, Derry-Londonderry is a very walkable place, most especially the wall city area. However, not all of the attractions of Derry-Londonderry are within the walled city. I have already visited the Guildhall which is one fantastic building, and I have also been to the Peace Bridge.

However, I didn’t get to visit the other side of the Peace Bridge. The River Foyle is the main river in the city and the Peace Bridge symbolically connects the two separate banks. Derry-Londonderry still simmers with unionists and loyalists, basically pro-independence versus pro-monarchy. How effective the Peace Bridge is in mending that gap, I do not know, but I do know that there are still places on the other side of the River Foyle which I can visit. The weather is still holding up, hopefully it keeps up the rest of the day.
