Rugged Coast of Malin Head

Rugged Scenery at Malin Head

Rugged Scenery at Malin Head

We were following a trail to the left of Banba’s Crown in Malin Head. This trail was a nice enough trail, at least there is one here compared to the first and last hillwalk I did here in Ireland. The path here is much more manageable that you have have kids walking here. You still need to be careful here as some parts are wet and thus quite slippery. I would think that rain is the main culprit for the slippery landscape. The ocean is still too far away down to affect the trail. I think. If you look at the landscape here you might have your doubts as well.

Gap in the Rocks at Malin Head

Gap in the Rocks at Malin Head

There is at lot of bare rock here which were continuously punished by the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The continuous erosion of the rocks here have produced a striking an rugged landscape I haven’t seen elsewhere. I have heard that the rocks here in Malin Head are among Ireland’s oldest rocks and thus have significant geological value. Some of those rocks are slowly being eroded into the sea, in a process which probably produces the beautiful and wild scenery commonly seen here. I am awestruck by the raw beauty of this place and I just wish I could go down to take a closer look, but that would be too dangerous as a rogue wave would slam me into the rugged rocks below.
