There was a part of Glenveagh National Park’s history that was quite infamous when the owner of that time, chased out the tenants of the estate that is now Glenveagh National Park. No doubt one of the reasons for that was to be able to appreciate better the splendid view of Glenveagh without all those villagers. And what at view it was. There was a lake just ouside the Glenveagh Castle, and certainly parts of the castle were planned around the lake. There was a small pool which was very near the lake itself, much like a modern day swimming pool now. I wonder why bother making that when you can just go jump in the lake. Perhaps the pool’s water can be heated in times of cold weather.

There are also part of the castle grounds which extend into the lake itself. From this spot you can see the edge of the lake as well as the nearby hills which Glenveagh is known for. I don’t think this it is possible to swim in the lake nor do I think it is wise to do so. The lake does seem to be clean though but I haven’t seen any fish yet. It was really nice to just hang out at the viewing deck just to appreciate the beauty of Glenveagh, however dark skies approaching remind me that we should get moving. There is a fairly long walk back to the entrance of Glenveagh National Park and most of it is not covered.
