Crossing the Peace Bridge

Heading Back to the City of Derry-Londonderry on the Peace Bridge

Heading Back to the City of Derry-Londonderry on the Peace Bridge

The Peace Bridge is a very modern bridge and it would seem to be a bit out of place in a very Victorian city of Derry-Londonderry. Indeed, it was only opened in 2011. It probably helps to improve the image of Derry-Londonderry as a city of culture and arts. Two massive supports rise from the river, it has numerous cables attached to the support to lift the rest of the bridge. The design while not particularly impressive to me, works. The bridge is up and it seems to be quite stable, but it just wasn’t spectacular. Thoughtfully though, they have some seats on the bridge near where the large supports are for people to take a break and just take in the fresh air.

Railway Tracks on the Opposite Bank of the River Foyle on the Peace Bridge

Railway Tracks on the Opposite Bank of the River Foyle on the Peace Bridge

Safety handrails line both sides of the bridge as it snakes its way to the opposite bank of the river Foyle. They even have life preservers in case someone jumps into the murky waters of the river. The opposite side of the river has some kind of government house, which I will not have enough time to visit. I suspect that I would be something to this city quite often since this is the closest city from where I was staying. Just underneath the bridge on the opposite side are railway tracks. I was then curious to know where these trains go. I have heard about British trains and how much widely used they are, I think I would want to try riding them one of these days. For now, it was time for us to head back.
