Tranquil Setting at Saint Augustine’s Church in Derry-Londonderry

I was having a grand time admiring all the classical architecture here in Derry. I would say that these structures are even more impressive than the ones in Letterkenny where I was based. Derry-Londonderry is a walled city and a reminder to the troubled years which Ireland had to endure. The walls here in Derry-Londonderry still stand to this day, but now they are for the tourist crowd. There were some impressive structures within the walls and one of them was a Cathedral. Which is why I was surprised to run into another church just a few blocks away from the cathedral.

The church this time wasn’t as large as the cathedral of Saint Columb which I encountered earlier. This was Saint Augustine’s Church which is part of the Church of Ireland. I don’t quite understand why there is a much smaller church but i do appreciate the quaintness of the church. It is located in what I can only describe as a garden. There were a few tomb stones outside the church while the church building itself stands guard. I have wandered through a few grave yards here in Ireland that I wasn’t bothered by them anymore. The church itself was operational but there was no service at the time of my visit. It does seem to be part of the tourist circuit as there is a prominent signboard which talks about the church.
