Starting the Bacuit Archipelago Island Hopping Tour

Heading Out to Sea at El Nido

Heading Out to Sea at El Nido

It seems that I haven’t been on an outrigger canoe for the longest time. When I went to the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia, we took a speed boat to the island and around it. The outrigger canoes here in the Philippines are a very common means of transport especially in the provinces where inter-island travel is difficult. However, primitive as these outrigger canoes may be, somehow I feel safer on these. Maybe because of its lack of speed which makes me feel it is safer. Or perhaps its outriggers which give it stability compared to a normal canoe.

I quickly got the hang of our boat as we started push out to sea at the start of our exploration of the beautiful Bacuit Archipelago. Our group is a very small group of four which is great so we don’t have to wait for a lot of people here. It also helps our tour guide to watch over us better. I got myself a seat in front of the boat and it was exhilarating. The smell of sea water rushes through you as sprays of water occasionally hits you. I haven’t done this in years and it feels great. The nearest island here is Cadlao Island which can be seen from El Nido town itself. I don’t think I have a chance to land on the island, but at least we get to see it on the way to the other islands.
