I was saying that I would be exploring the Stone Forest on foot but I ended up hooking up with two very friendly Swedes. They don’t speak Chinese so I became their tour guide of some sorts. As we were going around the park looking for things to see. At one point of the exploration we were taking photos of the stones when I noticed that some of the local Chinese tourists purposedly try to stand next to the Swedes, just to get there photo taken with them even if they were facing the other way. One of the bolder ones would just show them their camera and ask to have their picture taken with them, all in Chinese.

This amused me no end as there didn’t seem to be an end to these people who wanted to take photos with them, yes, just like superstars. I have heard about this phenomenon but this is probably the first time I have seen it in action. It sort of makes me feel bad since I was a foreigner just like them but I don’t get all that attention. Anyway, I thought of an idea, I would set up a booth and have me as the manager of my two talents. Tourists would then take photos with my talents for a fee of course. Hey, it is not free to come all the way to Yunnan, or China for that matter. Well that idea didn’t go very far but the stealth and not so stealth photos continued throughout the day, I think we would have made a few hundred yuan by charging CNY 10 each.
