My brand new travel buddy and I head back to Dali Ancient Town as we got down from Cangshan quite early in the afternoon. We were concerned about taking the longer route then having to walk down the mountain because there was no more cable car to ferry us down the mountain. I would be okay to walk down the mountain but only if there were still light around. Chances are we would have to walk down the mountain in the dark. And there was no guarantee that the paths would be easy to figure out. We found transport to bring us back to Dali Ancient Town, it seemed that they were already expecting people to need transportation back to town as there was a queue here for visitors wanting to go back. I think the tourism authorities should have a bus to ferry visitors back and forth instead of having to bargain with drivers about the fare.

Anyway, when we got back to Dali, we decided to have an early dinner. As we didn’t have lunch that day, probably the most was some peaches which we bought on the way up the mountain. Being the one who can speak the language, I ordered for the both of us. It was spicy chicken, which looked a lot like Sichuan style, but this one has strange stuff in it which I cannot identify. My guess is that they were local herbs which are unique to Yunnan. My travel buddy liked it and it seemed he was glad he was able to eat at a place like this, though he did mention that he normally eats at roadside stalls since they seem to be “cleaner” as the food is all prepared on the spot, as compared to restaurants which may or may not have a fridge. Additionally, you don’t know how the food is prepared in these kinds of establishments, whereas the roadside stall prepares the food right in front of you. He’s got a point.
