I was surprised to find out that the Cang Mountains 苍山 is one of the attractions here in Dali. I was under the impression that all that can be seen here in Dali were all historical in nature. It seems I was mistaken as the Cang Mountains seem to be a magnet for nature lovers or just people who want to get away. It is quite fortunate that the Cang Mountains have already been developed for tourism and that they are so close to Dali Ancient Town. Curiously, there was no public bus to bring us to the mountains. We needed to take a taxi there.

The Cang Mountains aren’t really particularly tall. I have been to some mountain further up north of Dali and and they were much taller, however a mountain is still a mountain and as they say people climb mountains because it is there. For the dedicated hikers, it is possible to hike up the Cang Mountains. My Canadian companion and I were so as we didn’t have the luxury of time. He may have the endurance but not I. The cable car station near the top of the mountain is the perfect jumping off point to explore the trails that dot the mountain. Just be warned that there is only one cable car going down at the moment of visit so if you intend to use it when going back, take note of the closing time and make sure you get on it before it closes.
