Three Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple are a marvelous piece of architecture. It is quite surprising to know that this was built all the way back in the 9th century as a way to ward off dragons. The pagodas have stood the test of time and have survived even earthquakes which have previously flattened the surrounding towns. The pagodas are made of mud and are considered to be one of the tallest pagodas in China. The pagodas are arranged according to the vertices of an equilateral triangle, with the tallest one right in the middle. The name of the tallest pagoda is the Qianxun Pagoda.

The Qianxun Pagoda being the tallest one of the three is the most prominent of the Three Pagodas. Its design is also unlike the other two pagodas, with the Qianxun Pagoda sporting a square footprint instead of the more circular ones beside it. The Qianxun Pagoda is also the first of the three to be built. The pagoda slowly tapers off to the top giving it that appearance that it is much taller that it really is. At sixteen stories it is considered as one of China’s tallest pagodas.
