Visitors of my blog here (yes, both of you) would notice that I have been to a few ancient towns in China. I can’t help but be attracted to these kinds of places. Most of these towns have been well maintained and are friendly to tourists. I guess I have been to way too many of these places but I still like them whenever I see them but only to realized that they all looked the same. Instead of focusing on what was similar, I sometimes try to see why makes the place different from the others.

It is hard to tell when you look at Dali. It is as if everybody is imitating each other. To make things worse, Dali is just a few hours by bus from Lijiang so comparisons to it can’t be avoided. Dali’s main road is quite pretty and it reminds me of Lijiang. It is funny how they put some running water along the street to make it look like Lijiang. This does make the street much much prettier, especially with the willow trees planted along the way. The shops here though sell more Bai stuff than Naxi stuff unlike Lijiang. The Bai ethnic group predominate here it is inevitable that they sell their wares here.
